Living the Faith
|
The end of April and the beginning of May are exciting weekends for the second graders of Saint John Bosco Parish as they receive the sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist. We pray for all Catholics who receive the sacraments of initiation. Thank you to Mrs. Carol Hamer for helping the students to prepare for the sacraments. Thanks also to Mrs. Carol Polefko and Mrs. Debbie Hannan in the PSR office for all they do throughout the entire year, but most especially at this time. We will celebrate an all school Mass with them on Monday, May 12th at 9:30 AM – all families and friends are always invited and welcome to celebrate with us.

This is directly from the family handbook:
During the months of August, September, May and June, the cool down dress policy will be in effect. Students in grades kindergarten through five may wear navy dress/uniform walking shorts, like those purchased from Schoolbelles or from the uniform section of major department stores. Girls in grades kindergarten through five may also wear navy blue skorts. Students in grades six through eight may wear khaki or navy dress/uniform walking shorts. They should be knee length. There may be no rivets (as in blue jeans), double stitching, no excess pockets (as in cargo or carpenter pants). They must have belt loops and a belt must be worn. Student must wear appropriate blouse or shirt. Blouses and shirts must be tucked in. Students may also wear tennis shoes during the shorts option days. Shoelaces must be tied at all times and must match the shoes. Clean, plain white socks must be worn with tennis shoes.
Gym shorts may not be worn as part of the cool down uniform. However, students in kindergarten, grades 1 and 2 may wear them on the days that they have physical education class.
We are confident that all students are appreciative of this Cool Down Uniform and will respect the parameters. However, the following will be the consequences if any individual decides not to adhere to the cool down dress code:
First infraction: Warning (documented)
Second infraction: One week without cool down uniform privileges
Third infraction: Cool down uniform privileges revoked for remainder of school year
Cool down uniforms are an option. Students may choose to wear the regular uniforms.

St. Vincent De Paul Collection
|
It has been a long-standing practice of stewardship for the families of SJB school students to help fill the cupboards of the Saint Vincent de Paul society with cans of food. This month will be the last time we are able to do this – so let’s do our very best. We will have a Cleveland Indians Accent Day on Friday, May 9th. If you do not have an extra can of food, a donation of $1 (or more) will help. Thank you, on behalf of Saint Vincent de Paul Society for all you have done over the years to help others.

Congratulations
|
Sometimes we might take our United States citizenship and all that it encompasses for granted. As we reflect on all our freedoms, we congratulate two of our very own SJB parents who have been sworn in as United States citizens in the past few months: Angela Morales and Themistoklis Gemelas!

I-dent-a-kid
|
Once again, SJB is offering an opportunity for parents to purchase an identification card for your children. It is not a fundraiser. It is a chance to have your child’s photo taken, important information, and fingerprint recorded onto two laminated cards for $10. You should have a new card each year for your child, as we all know that their height and weight information changes all the time. It is a good investment for your child. They will be here on May 9th at 9:30 AM.

Yearbook
|
Thank you to the following students who served on the yearbook committee and produced a fabulous final SJB yearbook: Alaina Murphy, Tara Byrne, Danielle Marco, Bobby Geng, Tammy Kanta, Kristen Mey, Jennifer Horvath, Kyra Coundourides, Korie Maryo, Brittany Dell, Jacob Rasmussen, and Ariel Roder. You did a wonderful job!

Band Concert
|
Please join us as we hear the annual and final band concert of SJB school on Wednesday, May 21st at 1:15 and 7:00 PM in the gym. We are so grateful to Deacon Roger for the many, many years of service that he has given to the band students of SJB!
|
Spring Musical
|
Mrs. Suzanne Keller, our dedicated music teacher, would like to give the students in grades 3-6 an opportunity to have fun and share their singing talents with the SJB community with a performance of This Beautiful Land We Share on Wednesday, May 28th at 7:00 PM in the gym. Please join us!

New Baby
|
It has been an incredible year for new babies for many SJB families. This month, we congratulate Elaine Ryneer, mother of Jonathan Horvath in the first grade, as they welcome Katie into their family.
|
Academic Congratulations
|
Academic congratulations are also extended to the following students who are receiving academic scholarships to Padua High School: Valentino Cario, Rachel Gorczyca, Joseph Kanta, Gabrielle Mey, Michelle Samboa and Samantha Zikeli.
